Not German Not Lager

  • 4.25kg Pilsen
  • 1kg Munich
  • 290g Carafa Special II
  • 140g Chocolate Malt
  • 56g Hallertauer Mittelfrueh @ 60m
  • 14g Hallertauer Mittelfrueh @ 20m

It ain’t German, it ain’t a lager, but it’s about as close as I’ll get with my brewing process. Brewing salts added to target a brown balanced water chemistry profile, munich malt for some body, and the usual dark grains for the roasty toasty.

It ain’t German because I broke the german brewing rules, and cheated further with the chocolate malt.

It ain’t a lager because I’ve used the infamous kveik. Haters gonna hate, but I have no temperature control during fermentation. Using a Hornindal dry yeast (Lutra), it stayed in the low 20s the whole fermentation. Bottle conditioned and “cellar” aged (my basement).

For the OHBS 2024 Advent calendar.
